Linux Mint: JAVA_HOME perils

Hey guys,

I'm running into the infamous

[ERROR] Program launch failed. Unable to locate Java VM. Please set JAVA_HOME environment variable.
[ERROR] Unabled to prepare JavaScript for packaging. Error code 4

error on Linux Mint 13, 64bit version using the XFCE4 shell. Using the TiStudio built in terminal all seems to be fine.

brian@Linuxpad ~ $ echo $JAVA_HOME
/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun

I've been spending all day on Google, and the closest I could come to an answer is this bug: http://jira.appcelerator.org/browse/TISTUD-1984?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel

which should be fixed, so I'm not sure if I'm running into something else.
